19 March 2013:Study on e-waste in the MENA region In developing and transition countries, e-waste is frequently not being treated in an environmentally safe manner leading subsequently to heavy impacts on human health and environment. On the other hand, e-waste offers economically most interesting recycling possibilities that are unfortunately not being used. Focusing mainly on waste from information and communication technologies (ICT), Global21 carries out a study comparing the legal situation, treatment technologies and initiatives regarding e-waste in 10 countries of the MENA region. Furthermore, Global 21 frames up a regional benchmarking and suggests a list of recommandations. |
